Celebrate Amesbury’s Veterans and hear their stories.

Dear Mr. Woodwell, an original one Act play by Amesbury High School Alum Aspen Gibbas, honors one of Amesbury’s most legendary citizens Roland Woodwell who, as an AHS English teacher, wrote to over 80 of his students while they were serving in WWII. Woodwell saved over 300 of their letters, which are now studied every year by AHS Juniors in American History.

Gibbas's play won multiple awards at the Massachusetts Drama Festival, and now she revives the play as part of the year-long 350th celebration to introduce Mr. Woodwell to new members of the community and to reminisce with those who remember him as a teacher, Whittier biographer, and local historian.

ATTENTION former students of Mr. Woodwell -- who taught for 40 years – and families of WWII veterans: What are your stories and memories? After each performance, audience members are invited to share their memories and to look at the letters which have been preserved.
